  1. Everyday Objects

Viewing repetition as a vessel for sentimentality. Familiar, seemingly trivial, objects that bring comfort to my daily routines.

2. Styling Sparks

Outfits/photos that inspired me to play with my clothes (all images via Pinterest).

4. Dreaming & Doing.

This Summer I’m trying to make more time for creativity and play. For the past few years, most of my creative energy has gone into Magnetism drops and I’ve been missing playing around in my journal, making art for myself, crafting with new mediums, etc.

In preparation for the Deadstock Sunnies drop, I had an impromptu photoshoot with my sweet friends Rita & Bryanna. I wanted to shoot something fun and whimsical, that celebrated Summer & friendship. I loved stepping outside of my usual routine for shooting vintage drops — alone in my home office — and having more time to flush out my vision. It was inspiring and refreshing to invite others into my space/process, and so nice to play outside and call it work! I love how the images turned out, and look forward to more fun shoots in the future.

This month I got to help my dear friend Claire set up her Okay To Rest pop-up shop here in Victoria, and it was so much fun!

Working alongside my close pals, while crafting and designing a space intended to feel fun & welcoming — I couldn’t ask for a better project. I made these cutie letter pillows that we hung on a clothesline, and I love how they turned out. We also created a floating bed installation behind the cash desk, and I think it added such a playful element to the space. I feel so grateful to be trusted and encouraged, and proud of how my vision came to life as part of such a lovely experience.

Making those pillows reminded me how much I love sewing! I’ve been wanting to make some breezy Summer pieces for my closet, and I think it’s finally time. I’ll be rummaging through my thrifted lace curtains, crochet tablecloths, and other vintage fabrics immediately.

Another creative project that I’ve been really enjoying is making the Curio Keychains! Last year I made myself a little keychain using some vintage wooden beads from my large collection, and it’s been one of my favourite accessories to make my outfits a little more fun & personal. I recently made a few more to share with you on Mag, and you seemed to love them too! I’m excited to continue experimenting and designing them, each keychain being one-of-a-kind.

I think it will be such a fun way to infuse more play into Magnetism.

There are a few Curio Keychains left from the last drop, you can find them here!

5. Objects of Desire

Pieces of interest from my online window shopping endeavours. Pinning in my mind as inspo for secondhand searching and sewing projects.

Dreamy, drapey tops.

Swan Top in Navy Cotton-Silk Faille by Chelsea Mak

Chelsea Mak is one of my favourite designers! I love the silhouettes she creates, and her use of draping and organic knots. Her Swan tops are stunning and my biggest inspo for my next sewing project using navy cotton poplin.

Summer Sandals

Arch Support Flip Flops in Navy by Archies

A slightly less chic addition, but I am very intrigued by these flip flops as someone who cannot last more than 5 minutes in a typical flat flop. If I were to buy a pair of plastic sandals, it would probably be these… but I digress.

Vintage Shell Button Leather Sandals by Kenneth Cole via eBay

On the topic of sandals, I just scored these leather sandals by Kenneth Cole on eBay! I’ve been looking for some sleek leather sandals with shell button embellishments à la Paloma Wool, and these look very promising. Fingers crossed!

The Perfect Hoodie

The Blank Hoodie in Heather Grey by Okay to Rest

Claire has truly outdone herself with her latest cut and sew blank tees and hoodies! I had the pleasure of folding hundreds of them this month, and I am blown away by her attention to detail. Responsibly made in Canada from cozy 100% cotton, with a slouchy vintage-inspired fit — what more could a girl want??? I scooped 2 of her new Blank Tees in White and Grey, and am eyeing a hoodie for Fall in either heather grey or the new creamy ecru colour. Her website will reopen in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for a restock!

Spiral Swim

Elissos Bikini Top by Fruity Booty

I have 0 need for a second bikini top (I have yet to swim this Summer & favour a one-piece) but I can’t resist mentioning this cutie spiral bikini top by Fruity Booty. Bonus points for the adjustable back straps which are a must for comfort/heavier busts.

Soft Shorts

Adeline Shorts in Brown by Home of Hai

An elevated lounge short in beautiful brown dupion silk. I love the loose, comfortable silhouette, longer inseam, and elastic waist— contrasted by such a delicate/formal fabric. I feel like I would live in a simple silk short like this all Summer/Spring/Fall.

Short Shorts in White by Stella Egelja

Love these simple white cotton shorts! An elevated boxer, also reminiscent of my fav vintage running & rugby shorts in a more wearable fabric and silhouette. Stella recently kindly gifted me a pair of her drawstring Studio Pants, and I love them so much.

Soleil Shorts in Umber by Arlee

A sportier option, handmade by Arlee Stewart from a lightweight linen/viscose. I’m so into the sporty stripes on these, and think they would be so fun to dress up or down.

Crochet Cutie

A Hat Named Wanda in Hickory Stripe by Emily Dawn Long

Forever looking for a funky crochet hat and this one lives in my brain permanently, floating to the surface every Summer. Maybe I’ll finally trade in my knitting needles for a crochet hook? More likely I’ll continue to search the thrift stores for a similar funky cotton hat.

A Big Bag

Bull Denim Oversized Bag in Clear Blue by Los Angeles Apparel

I think this would be the perfect post office bag to replace my giant plastic IKEA ones, if I’m ever feeling fancy. The Clear Blue colour is very Magnetism, making it extra enticing.
