a series of catching up with friends, near and far
ft . geneva boyett
how do you take your coffee/tea?
I usually take my coffee black but if I'm looking for a lil treat, I'll add a bit of cream!
describe your style in 3 words:
“modern 90s mom”
your go-to stay-home outfit?
my trusty @rawson sailor pants and a vintage t-shirt!
a song/album you have on repeat:
Blues Run the Game by Jackson C. Frank
what keeps you grounded?
being close to nature in any way, shape, or form. I need to constantly be reminded that this life is bigger than myself, that things will keep moving forward, and that there is beauty and mystery all around me.
fav meal to make at home?
hot pot! It's a Chinese dish where you basically get all different kinds of ingredients (veggies, tofu, dumplings, meat, etc.) and cook them in a simmering broth that sits in the middle of the table. It's a slow meal that's meant to be shared, which is why it feels so special.
what/who inspires you?
my family. they immigrated to the US from China before I was born, learned an entirely new language, became citizens. They are extremely hardworking and have fought for everything they have. I'm constantly inspired by their tenacity and spirit.
a current hobby, and one you’ve always wanted to try:
I'd say food is a hobby of mine! I LOVE to cook, eat (obvi) and learn about food. Eating sustainably is also very important to me so I find that that drives my passion for learning about and making food. Something that I've always wanted to try has been vlogging! It seems a little silly and scary to put yourself out there but I always thought it'd be fun.
*ps. you can watch geneva’s vlogs here; they are so relaxing and the perf companion for quiet summer days :-)
1 little moment that brightened your day recently?
we've been walking our cat (yep) and it's been a great way to meet a lot of the neighbors down our street. people see her on a leash and get the biggest smile on their faces. it's allowed us to meet all different kinds of people down our block and there's something really sweet about that!
what are you reading/listening to/watching?
reading through Les Mis by Victor Hugo and Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. I'm not really consuming many other shows or podcasts right now because we're living through such an important time and I don't want to just check out. I think it's important that we pay attention, put in the work, and rest in more productive ways.
fav vintage item you own?
a gold ring from my grandmother
